Science teacher Ryland Grace wakes up on a spaceship light years from home with no recollection of who he is or how he got there. As his memory returns, he begins to uncover his mission: solve the riddle of the mysterious substance causing the sun to die out. He must call on his scientific knowledge and unorthodox ideas to save everything on Earth from extinction.
Well, I like it.
I don’t like the pretentious Hollywood shit though. I doubt though that the book is very different, but it’s different on that, I’m very sure.
Also, I don’t like it that a white Christian male American—
USian? Aren’t both continents Americas? Aren’t North America not only the US? Rhetorical questions.
I mean. You can put anyone there, a person of colour, gay, trans… doesn’t look like the storyline would change. Not that I have many problems with that, considering that’s an American movie after all. Right? I’m just a bit tired of it, that all the time, it’s a single hero, a genius, not even a team… he saves the world, the entire World! Not just even planet Earth, but the entire Solar System, you know? Not just one, two! The Rocky’s one too, right? Well, technically Rocky helped him, but he’s mostly a funny character alongside Gosling.
Also, before I got bald (and teeny bits of
boldfat too), I was resembling Ryan Gosling in my appearance. So, I mean, I have no problems with a main movie character being similar to me in a way, it’s rather tiring a bit.
And this cherry on top, Gosling returns home safe! He made peace with his death, and all…
Ah, I forgot, I wanted to start with… Hey! It’s just a replica of U Are the Universe (2025), isn’t it? It is! The American version.
We watched it in two attempts, before Rocky told Gosling he’d help with the fuel, and after that. First was on our iPad Pro 13", and 2nd was on our new MacBook Air 15" M4— Well, it was quite beautiful in 4K on the MacBook.
I dislike everything about this pompous Hollywood thing. An American saving not just one solar system, but two. A very advanced alien is of course just his pal that helps him with some things here and there.
Oh, by the way. I didn’t know (or wasn’t well aware) as all best Americans, Ryan Gosling is Canadian. But in this movie he’s clearly American. I have no problems with the actor, obviously. My problem is, it’s quite tiresome to see this storyline across generations, when an American superhero of sorts saves everyone every time. It’s a cool story, but overall, I appreciate when it’s a team effort, at least.
Overall, I can even recommend. It’s beautiful, the cosmos. The storyline is somewhat curious at least. The view of the aliens is also something new. However, I personally believe that aliens should be so much different to us, that we may not even comprehend them with our brains. The universe is so vast and different that, well, there must be all the sorts of aliens. But I doubt we’d be able to understand any of them. We cannot understand ourselves and our own planet.
